The Pintadas exhibit opening ROCKED!

The exhibit was installed the day before, utilizing the good amount of wall space, as well as the dungeon rooms. People who came really loved the layout of the photos, and of course the photos themselves! Accompanied by the questionnaires, which gave much weight to the images, the mere amount of women on the wall, all API, all tattooed, was very impressive. I was so glad to see all the participating women who were able to make it. Samantha, Sylvia, Hima, Maria, and I did some tattoo storytelling. Samantha was so nervous, but she did so well talking about her art! Natalie aka Surgeon Scofflaw did some great spoken word, and Bernard talked about the Four Waves Tribe.

The viewers who came seemed to come from all sorts of backgrounds, some straight edge, some not. Leda, one of the co-owners of the studio space, and one of the participating women in the exhibit, mentioned to me that it's the most packed she's ever seen it for an exhibit! Not too shabby! All the work we've done, from sending in photos, questionnaires, to photoshoots, to meeting up to exchanging materials, to follow up, all culminated in this gorgeous exhibit that I can personally say I'm very proud of! The first of its kind! I heard rave reviews about the exhibit throughout the evening, including from the Pintadas women who were able to come, thanking me for including them in it. But I have to give a big THANK YOU to all you women who've taken part in the Pintadas Project thus far, namely, the exhibit portion. Without each single person, the exhibit wouldn't be as kickass as it was!

So the exhibit will be up for another 2 weeks, until April 30th. If you were unable to catch it last night, or want to check it out again, just drop Arena Studios a line at 212.447.0603 before stopping by. It's at 407 Broome Street (between Centre & Lafayette), Bell 7A, 7th Floor.

Congratulations, ladies, we made history as the first exhibit of tattooed Asian women! But our job's not over yet, as there's a pictorial spread in the works for the next issue of Bamboo Girl Zine! If I have your questionnaires & final photos in digital format already, you don't need to do anything further, but if I don't have your final digital photos or questionnaires, please email to me at your earliest convenience so I can include you in the pictorial.

Whew! What a great night! Now I can get some real rest again!

More power to us!
