Thank you Hanna and other Queer People of Color organization members at University of Oregon (Eugene)! Spoke about intersections between gender, race, sexual orientation... good discussions afterwards during the reception, while stuffing ourselves with local sweet cakes! Had a great time there, and their weather was so welcome coming from NYC, where it's been raining as if it's not June!
Philippine Independence Day came and went last week. Really just went down to say hi to friends, and to reminisce the BBQ smoke that invades every pore of your body while you walk past the booths. Thank goddess it wasn't as meat market as it usually is!
Just came back from a month in the Philippines. Spent 3 weeks in the provinces of Iloilo, and 1 in Manila. Great rejuvenating experience! Saw my hijada/godchild and showered her with gifts. Almost preferred the small town jeepney accessible calmness of Iloilo, though Manila had more stimulating things to do. Ate lots of native chicken and native chocolate with churros!
Thinking of preparations for the next Bamboo Girl Benefit Party, it's the 5th one! So it'll be special, besides the fact that the folks who grace the stage are amazingly talented. Still figuring out date and time. Will keep you updated.

APIA Summit Fundraiser
Saturday, June 28 @ 7pm
Doors Open at 6:30
Suggested Donation $5-$15 Sliding Scale
In Chicago this summer, Asian Pacific Islander American performance artists, spoken word poets, and activists will convene for the 2nd APIA Spoken Word Summit organized by Asian American Artists Collective and I Was Born With Two Tongues. Here in Philly we're gearing up for the summit with a fundraiser performance event that will showcase our region's amazing array of Asian American spoken word performers.
All proceeds will be donated towards the 2nd APIA Spoken Word Summit and to help fund travel to the summit for teens from our GenerAsian Next Teen Theater Troupe. The evening's line-up includes: Omar Telan, kontrast, Gabby Callendar (from Mahina Movement), Sabrina Margarita Alcantara-Tan (Bamboo Girl), Giles Li (of re:verse), Hanalei Ramos, Taiyo Takeda Ebato, GenerAsian Next. Yellow Rage hosts this fundraiser which will also feature a raffle of CD's donated by Bao Phi, Kevin So, and many of the evening's performers!
Come show your love for the APIA poets in our region and help kick off the summer in grand style!
